Kids today have lots of short acronyms they use for text-messaging. One of our favorites is ROTFLMAO: Rolling on the Floor Laughing My A** Off! That’s what came to mind the minute we heard this one earlier today. We just had to share it with everyone.

Remember Jean Fugett (President of the NFL Retired Players Steering Committee)? (Read some past posts on his gems of wisdom HERE, HERE, and HERE.) Either this guy is delusional again or he’s been taken out back to the woodshed and given a serious attitude adjustment. Today on the NFLPA’s website under their Leadership Corner (?) post for the day, Fugett now says, “ON TURNING TO THE UNION IN TIMES OF NEED: We want to make sure every retired player knows–whether he’s vested or not, recently retired or not, has a family or not — that we’re here for him. If he has a problem or a need, the union has experts, professionals and former teammates who can address nearly any issue and genuinely want to help. Retired players just need to pick up the phone.” (Read the rest of the post HERE.)

This from the same guy who stated earlier, “It is the same today with our retired group. Not all retired players support our Union. I was asked why and I can only speculate. Do they have their own individual agendas? Are they selfish or greedy like the NFL owners who say they want to take back from the players. Do they work for the NFL?

It looks like the NFLPA is realizing that more retired players may end up going to the First Annual Independent Retired Football Players Summit (to be held in Las Vegas) than they’re expecting at the annual Retired Players Convention (to be held in Palm Springs) this year at the end of May this year again. So to make up for the fact that there’s no fee to attend The Summit, the NFLPA is now generously offering to waive your registration fee giving you savings of up to $300 a couple! They’ll even pay your next year’s dues to save you another $100!
But it’s not the cost of registration that’s prohibitive. Read our earlier post about the cost of attending one of their meetings in Palm Springs (click HERE).

Here’s a copy of that personal invitations from NFLPA Steering Committee President Gene Fugett himself:

All the news from the Annual NFLPA meeting in Maui has been focused entirely on the election of DeMaurice Smith as its new Executive Director. We’ll be posting some commentary about that shortly. In the meantime, here are some details now emerging on business-as-usual from that same meeting. Oh – and in case you didn’t know, the retired players have no true representation whatsoever: No seats on the Board or the Steering Committee and absolutely NO votes.

NFLPA Disrespects Retired Players Chapter Presidents and Steering Committee Members!
The NFLPA Retired Players Chapter Presidents proposed the following resolutions at the recent NFLPA Convention on Maui. The President of the Steering Committee, Jean Fugett, made the presentation. All three of the resolutions were turned down. Well – Surprise, Surprise, Surprise!
Why do our Brothers on the Steering Committee and the Retired Player Chapter Presidents keep wasting their time? Why don’t they come on over and join the Independent Players in this fight? At least they would be respected at our table.

Please feel free to post this letter that was sent to all the NFLPA Retired Players Chapter Presidents prior to their meetings this weekend. You might also remind the body of NFL Retired Players to call their Chapter Presidents and let them know we want the issues discussed.
Tony Davis
Fellow NFL Retiree’s,
