December ended up being a crazy busy month for Dave: 2 print interviews and 3 radio interviews so far. Dave’s primary focus has been on getting the word out on disability benefits and pensions, as well as answering some questions on the recent Parrish vs. Players Inc. GLA settlement.

Jeff Pearlman did a story for Sports Illustrated/CNN on Dave’s personal regrets about having played football. That helped generate over a million hits this month for the blog.

Jane Arnett, co-chair of the 2010 Independent Retired Players Summit, spent years as a corporate recruiter. Mary Moran’s exceptionally high salary $240,000-a-year as the Director of Human Resources at he NFLPA piqued her interest. Of course, it probably had nothing to do with being Congressman Jim Moran’s (D – Michigan) daughter.
After years in the executive search business, my immediate impression months ago of Mary Moran’s salary was that it was MUCH more than made sense. Just a quick Google search verified it. And remember… these salary averages are probably companies of several hundred of employees, companies with only a few dozen don’t usually have a dedicated HR manager, so a firm (union?!) of 100 employees would be near the bottom of the scale. When I heard what Mary was making I KNEW there was probably “funny business”. When we heard how Troy Vincent was undermined and how it came about, her salary became a VERY interesting commentary.

Gentlemen (and ladies) -
I think we’re long overdue for a short time out. I don’t often post personal editorials on this blog but after following the posts and comments back-and-forth since The Summit at the end of May, I’ve been thinking long and hard about taking a few minutes of everyone’s time to ask everybody to chill for a moment. In other words - time for a time out.
I believe there’s no doubt that everyone has good intentions for the plight of retired players. Of that, I have absolutely no doubt after having known Dave Pear as a good friend over these past years and being honored to have been invited to The Summit. After finally meeting many of you face-to-face for the first time (and I certainly hope not the last!), I got to hear your stories firsthand and I experienced the passion that made this game what it is today. And it’s that passion that clearly drives each and every one of you guys today.
