To Jeff and Brandi Winans:

Unless your accidental gunshot wound miraculously healed your back disability, Jeff, that incident was used as a cheap "reason" to deny you what you financially deserve. It's that simple. Smokescreen.

I am convinced there are hundreds, if not thousands of similar stories. Please find a way to make it to Las Vegas for the Independent Retired NFL Players Summit. It's time we all came together. If not us, then who? If not now, then when?

Aloha fellow NFL Retired Players:

I have read the stories of multiple retired players and communicated with many on a personal format concerning the medical problems we face in our "retired years." It is sad that we find ourselves unrepresented in our own Union and being forced 'to the mat' in obtaining medical and financial assistance from them in times of personal crisis.

Publicly, the Union is currently promoting its new assistance program for the retired players while at the same time refusing to abide by a court's decision to financially reimburse those players who signed agreements for financial promotions by the Union.

In order to obtain assistance, a player needs an attorney to acquire and present the multiple requests of proof-of-need.

Are the Union outside counsel lawyers more interested in their billable hours than the legal conflicts of their fiduciary responsibility to its members and following its obligation to the rule of law? Is continuing an appeal in the best interests of the very retired players they’re supposed to represent? You lost - Pay Up!

I’m looking forward to the upcoming 'summit' meeting in Las Vegas. I’m not sure how I am going to afford the trip on minor SSI disability benefits but I’m certainly going to try. I hope we have many players and people of interest in attendance.

I compliment the organizers for their difficult work of organizing this important gathering of retired players. If I can make it from Hawaii, I hope others will also make the effort to contribute to this important meeting and seminar.

Also, by writing these comments, I’m probably assuring my request for assistance by the Union will be denied.

Jeff, Brandi and Henry:

Hang in there. I have been fortunate in many ways, though I too suffer from the carnage of the NFL. I feel your pain and we must all come together to develop a way to have reasonable people exercise a little common sense. The Summit is a brilliant idea which will lay the foundation from now forward. Hang in there; the first step is to develop an intelligent and well-designed platform supported by a widespread group which truly represents all retired players.

George Allen often told us, when I was playing for the LA Rams, "We WIN together and we LOSE together!"

Nothing comes between us. Hang in there - your pain is mine and I feel it. Help is on the way.

I am so angry I can feel you. The player's union signed away my severance pay. They also denied me Line Of Duty disability even though I couldn't walk!

I THINK ABOUT GETTING EVEN with them sometimes.
