Larry Kaminski: Applying for Workers Comp

Nov 24, 2010

Larry Kaminski finally home again

I’ve just returned from California where I filed my Workers Comp complaint against the Denver Broncos. Needless to say, they’re quickly filing to fight my claims. It was interesting that the NFL Management Council – I had no idea they had any say in making these decisions – just sent me a note saying I’m too old! The statue of limitations has run out. No help there.

.

Well, at least while in California, I spent 17 hours with a medical psychologist being interviewed and taking cognitive tests. I had my entire body x-rayed multiple times and discussed several areas of concern. Lastly, I even spent a few hours with an internist discussing my concerns. I don’t know what the results will be but at least they can see the issues and make a comp determination. The NFL just says NO way, José – you’re too old and we won’t support your issues.
.

.
On another note, I now understand that all of us senior players aren’t having any issues with memory loss, dementia, emotional concerns because of the game we played in the 50-60-70′s. I would ask that any of you who still have your helmets from your playing days to forward them on to the League. If they didn’t cause issues for us, why not have the players today wear those helmets. Yes, let’s go back to the same webbing and design; and yes, let’s bring back the head slap while we’re at it! Why, I can’t see anyone objecting to this change. We’re all OK, as the Commissioner and his staff keep declaring. We’re one team and shouldn’t question the NFL’s judgment. If they said it, it must be true. And honest.

And where’s our Union (NFLPA) support for Larry and his family?

Anybody can talk a good game in the locker room until it comes time to divide up the money.

    Yo Larry -

It’s just great to know you’re still kicking! Yes, I too have experienced the same dialog that you’ve run into. There is no justice for our generation. At least from the NFL OR the NFLPA.

FYI – Pat Matson has had 23 surgeries and is receiving Social Security Disability from the government (like myself).

Here’s Pat’s story from The Denver Post – click HERE.

Why is the NFL allowed to violate ERISA Law and breach their Fiduciary Duty towards disabled retired players and STILL qualify for an “Antitrust Exemption”?

They have duped the public into paying their medical bills through Social Security Disability and Medicare. Just like they dupe the public into financing their stadiums.

The League spares NO expense when it comes to locating and paying high priced attorneys millions of dollars to justify nonpayment of their bills.

What a bunch of deadbeats! If they were deadbeat Dads who didn’t send their overdue support checks, they would have been put in jail a long time ago!

    Larry,

I always thought that you and all the other players had the best Insurance, money and you were going to be taken care of – especially after making the owners rich from your sweat, aches & pains.

In my high school days, I wore one of those leather helmets (that you could bend and put in your back pocket.) I believe if you get enough players to file a group complaint, you may WIN. (With a BURNING DESIRE TO WIN) Force the owners and the unions to pay up.

You were still the BEST CENTER I had the pleasure to coach.

    Dave:

With regard to the new neurology program being offered by the generous owners, I would suggest the following: As many of you already know, Dr. Daniel Amen from the Amen Brain Clinic began a research program to study the brains of 100 former players. If you were a participant in the program, you were given cognitive testing, a brain scan, a brain wave energy scan and follow-ups with comparison results with other players and a image of your brain versus a normal brain. And a supplement program was put in place by Dr. Willeumier as a followup to try to manifest changes in the brain regarding healing. In addition, we were given diet programs to lose weight which can also effect brain issues. As you can see, it’s a PROACTIVE approach to the concussion and head trauma problem. No BS…No Spin..No lollipops… just real action.

I understand that the clinic is now discussing with their Board of Directors a probable opening for 100 more players to study. Forget this NFL mirage and get your name on the list if you have concerns. It’s real help, it’s research and you don’t have pay, and it’s worth your time and expense to fly to California. You will learn a great deal and get some peace of mind.

Action talks and BS walks. And yes, that’s for you, Roger Goodell.
