GLA Settlement Checks Going Out Late July?

Jun 17, 2010

Hey Robert,

.

I called Garden City Group and now they say they won’t be sending out the second Players Inc. GLA Settlement checks until the end of July!

.

See - it’s starting again.

.

EDITOR’S NOTE: According to a note on the stub on the first check, the second checks are supposed to be going out some time in July. And there will be a third check going out some time after that. Some of the retired players on the list of 2,000+ did not send in their paperwork so any remaining balance will be divided up among the players who did confirm their addresses and tax information.

    Why didn’t Gene Upshaw’s estate have to wait to be paid in installments?

    Instead the NFLPA Leadership:

    1) Gave his estate $16,000,000 in cash (all in one lump sum which is why WE had to wait for two payments instead!);
    2) Renamed their building “UPSHAW PLACE”;
    3) Renamed the Dire Need Fund “The Gene Upshaw Dire Need Fund.” (Is that an oxymoron? Since when was Gene Upshaw ever in ‘dire need’?)

    Who says crime doesn’t pay?

    For all the players getting checks and who can afford it: Please consider helping me send my son to wrestling camp starting on July 4 in Iowa. He attends Temecula High and is a very good wrestler and student. The fee is $1,500.00 for 11 days. His name is Tyler Bradley and his coach’s name is Arnold Alpert phone is (951) 694-2951.

    Thanks.

    Dave,

    I received a call from Ryan (Garden City Group) RE: the 2nd GLA checks… He stated the checks should start arriving the last week in June. And he also stated if I haven’t received my check by the 2nd week of July to call him and he would track it down.

    GOD BLESS!

    Dwight -

    I called Ryan at Garden City Group back today and he told me the same thing (the next 10 days). He also said they’re calculating the extra monies and adding them to this check rather than sending out a third check in the Fall as previously stated. Who knows – I guess we’ll have to wait and see who got it right!

    My son and I are waiting for someone to help us. If anyone can buy him an airline ticket to Iowa, I will be indebted to you for life. This is his chance to maybe get a scholarship to college.

    Please go to http://www.thekardiackids.com and read some quotes that some of my teammates from a book that Don’s writing. Maybe you’ll see me as one of your brothers asking for a hand and not a handout! Please call me at (951) 440-9084; I would like for you to talk to Tyler because he knows without help, he cannot go.

    FYI – I called today (6-23-10) and the rep I talked to said the checks would be out Mid- to late July. I guess they don’t really have a timetable!

    Thank you, Dave. I only want to ask for a little help from those who can afford it. The NFLPA is paying for my medication now so that’s been a big relief. My brother Otha always talked about you and the fun he had in Tampa. Dave, just keep providing information and an outlet for retired players like me. My wife always took care of all the children’s activities until she was laid off. If people cannot give, just send a prayer. I was getting in my car a couple days ago and found a hundred dollar bill! It was in my driveway — no one in my house had a hundred dollars to lose! Praise God!

    Well, I just checked today and it doesn’t look like any time soon. The judge keeps putting stipulations on players that haven’t responded to any timetable like the rest of us regarding deadlines to submit paperwork despite the extended deadlines given and attempts to notify them over and over again. The ones who did follow protocol now have to wait for them or even possibly take less and wait for the NFLPA to act or release their claims. I’ve never have heard of this by any judge on a class action where there are deadlines after deadlines but this is just business as usual once again for us it seems.
