Best Comeback of the Day
Typically, Mike Florio on ProFootballTalk (now owned by MSNBC Sports) tends to lean more anti-NFLPA in his posts. But today, when NFL mouthpiece Greg Aiello decided to knock the NFLPA for having their annual gathering in sunny Hawaii, Florio actually quipped back:
.
“Still, the union’s trek to the islands has prompted a jab from NFL spokesman Greg Aiello, who made the following point via Twitter: “Weather today in NY is atrocious . . . would rather be in Maui but can’t afford it.”
.
“The union might respond to the dig by suggesting that Aiello ask former NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue for a loan. After all, Tagliabue made $3.3 million last year, despite retiring in 2006.”
.
Ba-Da-Bing-Ba-Da-Boom!

Still, we do hope that this year’s Hawaii expenses no longer include amenities such as $7,000+ (!) for “child care” services as disclosed in past LM-2′s from the Upshaw era. (Click HERE to read that earlier post.)

Let’s see – that $3,000,000 a year for Paul Tagliabue would be the equivalent $250 a month more in pension payments to 1,000 retired players. Wow! That would double monthly pensions for old-timers like Abner Haynes’ overnight (yes, that’s all those older players actually receive)!
Do people like Mr. Tagliabue in the NFL actually NEED another $3 million (of which probably half will go to the IRS anyway)? Add the $16 million that went to Upshaw’s widow from the NFLPA this past year and you’re talking some serious money here. And the NFL is dangling a measly $10 million token for retired players during negotiations? They could easily drop $50 million to start the pot and not even miss a beat.

I kindly request the NFL to stop stealing from retired NFL players who were the makers of the game.
The active players are commissioned to be the keepers of the game!
However, if you walk with a crippled person, soon you will limp.
The NFL is shamefully crooked.
The enmity (hostility and ill will) the League has demonstrated towards retired players along with their cocksure attitude is quite profound.
When will the league pay their long overdue bills to retired players and their families?
Negative publicity, Congress and Class Action Law suits seem to be the only REAL solution to force these impostors to pay their bills.
