Congresswoman Sánchez Also Wants an NFL Audit
Feb 24, 2010

Rep. Linda Sánchez
.
Earlier this month, Congresswoman Linda Sánchez (D- CA) wrote a very clear letter to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell about that legacy fund for disabled and retired players. Of course, if it’s going to be a fair deal, it has to be based on real numbers. But isn’t simply allowing the NFL and its owners pick a number to put on the table like letting a convicted criminal pick his own sentence? Or how about like letting Bernie Madoff tell the Feds how much he stole so he can tell them how much he’s going to pay back to his victims? Her letter makes a clear request for real, audited numbers.

Congresswoman Sanchez at least is trying to get a start on what could be damaging evidence to the NFL owners. Now, whether she gets viable truths from a group of owners with very powerful and knowledgeable lawyers is another story. Remember that 20 percent of the population is in control of 80 percent of the money. With that in mind, I would say the only people who can get the snowball rolling faster down the hill is the government. Because we all know that the government wants their share, if there is any money to be gotten. They are the only group that will levy great fines to a group of people with untold amounts of money. At this point, any help is welcome help. Let’s help her get that snowball flying and not concentrate on the bad issues of what may possibly happen.

Dear Congresswoman Sanchez,
Thank you for standing up for the rights of retired players and their families.
You, along with Rep. Maxine Waters, Rep. John Conyers and Gay Culverhouse have certainly taken the lead in assisting retired players and their families seek justice from the rich and GREEDY NFL!
Retired players have never asked for charity but we are requesting access to our earned benefits that we have been denied!
The issues for retired players are – and have always been:
1) Pension/disability reform
2) medical for life after football
I hope you will continue with this fight as we the retired players also stand firm until justice is served.
Regards,
