GLA Settlement Checks Arriving Already!
This past Friday, Dave received the first of his two Players Inc. GLA Settlement checks. And we’re now starting to hear from a few other players like Irv Cross and Council Rudolph who have also received their checks over the weekend. Looks like they’re trying to send the checks out as the paperwork comes in.

…
So we’re reminding everyone once again: Send in your paperwork TODAY! Fill it in, make a copy for your files and send it in by USPS Certified Mail with a Return Receipt (probably not much more than $5.00 to make sure it got to them). Their address is:
…
Retired Player Class Action Administrator
c/o The Garden City Group, Inc.
P.O. Box 91047
Seattle, WA 98111-9147
…
NOTE: This paperwork must be postmarked no later than FEBRUARY 9, 2010 to ensure that you get your first check. If you’re on that list and you didn’t receive your paperwork, be sure to contact them as soon as possible at (866) 697-5552 and leave a message with your number – they will get back to you quickly. You can also go to Garden City Group’s website (click HERE) to read updated information as it comes up. The second check is scheduled to go out some time in July 2010 (or sooner from the look of things!). You can see if your name is on that list by clicking the GLA Settlement News! link on the right side of this blog page.
…
And with everyone finally starting to receive their GLA Settlement checks because of Bernie Parrish’s determination and efforts, we’re asking each of you to consider setting aside a small piece of their checks to donate to his next legal project. No one would be getting ANY checks without Bernie – he’s the only player to have successfully sued these guys at this level. So please – think about hanging on to $50, $100 or even more to help Bernie assemble his new legal team and nail them again!
…
Watch this blog in the next day or two for information on how to join Bernie’s Next Big Thing!

Thank you, Bernie!
ALL retired players owe you a large debt of gratitude for standing up to the NFLPA Leadership and taking them to court seeking justice and restitution for “Breaching their Fiduciary Duty” when they stole our images and then Executive Director of the NFLPA Gene Upshaw compared us to “dog food.”
Even though over 2,000 retired players had signed GLA agreements for the “Madden video games,” we still weren’t paid one penny until you decided to take action.
Gene Upshaw and his gang were proven wrong and the retired players were proven right.
Bernie, you can count one me to send $100 for our next legal project and I strongly encourage every retired player who receives a check from the Players Inc. swindle to also consider doing the same!
Thank you,
Dave & Heidi Pear

Bernie,
Awesome job on getting it done for those who made the game what it is. Dave, Conrad and all the other Gladiators the owners made millions from and kicked to the curb – all of you are what the game is about: perseverance, toughness and just plain getting it done. It’s unfortunate you paid such a price.
I won’t be seeing a penny of the settlement but you guys are my heroes. Took on the big bad Goliath and felled him with a rock to the head.
Hit ‘em with a boulder next time, Bernie – you’ve got everyone’s juices flowing!
Respectfully,

I am glad that the players are getting the GLA checks.
I ask the players that can afford it to help me out this month. I do not need thousands of dollars – just food, gas and to help my son with his wrestling trips. If you would like to help call me at 951-440-9084.
Keep me in your prayers and allow me an opportunity to tell my story.

Burt and all you guys recognizing Bernie’s invaluable efforts:
We’ll be putting up a post with links, instructions and addresses so those who want to contribute to Bernie’s next legal efforts will be able to do so quickly and easily. Watch for the post in the next 24 hours here on Dave’s blog.
Over the last 72 hours, Bernie informs me that he’s received e-mails and calls from players and their families thanking and acknowledging him for his work in making this lawsuit happen. In the short time I’ve known Bernie, it’s been a real honor and privilege working with someone who has such determination and focus to selflessly fight to correct the injustices that have been needlessly heaped on the retired players’ shoulders over the decades. This work has mostly been done on Bernie’s own dime and on his own time.
In the old days, I think they called it integrity!
And as so many of you have also already noticed: Bernie was NEVER EVEN on the GLA list to get a settlement check nor was he included in the final settlement disbursements even while a few who continue to attack him slink off quietly into the night with their checks in hand.

NFL Players union takes a hit in court – Los Angeles Times
By: Greg Johnson
The language in the courts that the jurors found the union (NFLPA Leadership) to be guilty of included such phrases as “malicious and oppressive conduct with evil motive” and “conduct that was outrageous and grossly fraudulent.”

Surely they are also guilty of violating it over disability benefits!

Mr. Parrish,
I do not have words to express to you the gratitude that I and many of the other older families have for your great kindness and willingness to fight for us the way that you have. The funds that you forced the NFLPA and Eugene Upshaw – God rest his soul – to pay us, will certainly make a meaningful difference in our lives. We will certainly be more than happy to contribute the one hundred dollars to your efforts to help us more. You are in our prayers always as are the other members of your team.
Please pay no attention to those young men who seem to feel the need to attack you because all of us are with you in your work.
With All Sincerity To You And Your Team,
Kate

I love the hard work Mr. Parrish and others are putting into this effort. But at the end of the day – are we selfish, too? I’m thinking now I need to do what’s best for me.
Did we share any of our blessing with other retired players or did we forget? Maybe we need to reach out to someone that needs help. I’d like to thank Ricky Jones for saying, “I don’t have much but I will share it with you.” This is coming from a guy that didn’t get a GLA check – we all can learn from him. He will be blessed because he gave from his heart.

I sent my paper work in a few weeks ago and got a call from the admin that they were waiting on the lawyers to transfer money into the account to be able to pay me? Has anyone else gotten this excuse? I’ve never heard of the lawyers controlling the actual settlement. I thought the admin was in charge of the funds in escrow not our terrible lawyers to ration out partial payments at their leisure.

It’s hard to not believe in the NFLPA when they were the only ones who showed concern that I do not have heat, food and medication. It was no one’s fault that my wife lost her job over a year ago and all the responsibilities belong to me. Sometimes I get depressed – but I am a strong man and I asked for help a few weeks ago. But no one else stepped up to the plate.
