Warren:

I also took my pension early. I had my 3 boys in college. Being a player from the 60-70's the pay was not millionaire pay. However, I filed through the open window plan. I filed because I am now on SSA disability and thought I would catch a break from the NFL Management committee.

I was sent back a letter that I was not considered disabled by the studying group members on the council. Also, because I took my pension early I was not eligible for any new benefits. The letter clearly stated that if I wanted to fight the ruling, I had to travel to New York with legal representation to review the information. Lastly, if I didn't like the ruling, I could sue the NFL Management Council.

Thank you, Roger, for the LUV and support.

I can only say that you could be on a stretcher from injuries suffered from the result of playing in the 50s-60s-70's pleading for help and they'll ask you to participate in a study to verify your problem.

Good Luck.

Warren,
If you are 62 now, you were too old to reapply for disability under the Alliance window. 55 was the target age - on the theory that is full NFL retirement age.

Hi Dave,

You are incredible. Keep up the good work. No - make that great work!

I recently read one of your past articles that mentioned the NFL had offered a 120-day window to re-apply if early retirement was taken. I took mine at age 46. I'm now 62. After playing for 10 years in the NFL, my pension is $1,032/month, netting me $982 after $50 is paid to the IRS.

I never was aware of any window for re-application.

Do you have any suggestions? Could I be grandfathered in? When I took my retirement at 46, it was needed at the time, but more cash is definitely needed now. Any advice?
