The owners want this to happen with their "official sponsorship" of the NFL Alumni... that is the splintering of us veterans with a whole host of issues against a powerful adversary - the NFL Ownership. As they pursue their decades-old strategy of DELAY, DENY AND HOPE THEY DIE, trying (without success so far) to get George Martin and 179 other former players turn out for a media event allows the owners to show that the former players are divided and that their guys (NFL Alumni) are the good guys.

Oh yeah - it also extends the successful dodge of the NFL'S DUAL DUTIES TO FORMER NFL PLAYERS:

1) PENSION BENEFITS GREATER THAN BASEBALL &
2) WORLD CLASS DISABILITY BENEFITS.

We've all earned it... and the owners have the money. And I can assure you without complete unity and assistance from the press, the public and from the U.S. Congress, they won't part with a dime and their representative, Mr. Goodell, will simply continue to play us all for fools.

For those retired players wishing to attend Goodell's gala, please look up the definition of the word "BETRAYAL" and then read the history of those who took part in VICHY, FRANCE in support of Nazism during WWII...

Regarding the "new"NFL Alumni Assn.:

While reading my local newspaper (Naples Daily News) today, I noticed an ad for a hospital fundraiser. It included sponsors' names at various levels. Second to highest (Super Director's Club) was the "National Football League Alumni, Inc." Guess they have money to contribute (and impress people) because they can write it off as a donation for tax purposes.

Silly me. I always thought "Charity begins at home". Maybe it does, but not once you retire from the NFL and need medical help. Maybe we should visit a fundraiser for assistance?

Dear George & Roger:

I would sincerely like to thank both of you for your generous invitation to the Love Fest but unfortunately, I'm currently having trouble remembering what town I'm supposed to be meeting Dr. Omalu next Thursday (no joke), and cannot remember for the life of me where your big party is going to be.

Please don't delay the festivities on my part; I will get there as quickly as I can, once I can scrounge up enough gas money.

Thanks for your generous offer.

Thanks, Bernie, for your direct and correct comment!

The league (Owners, NFL and the NFLPA) continue to be defiant and show little or no remorse.

The solution is pension/disability reform and medical after football. The pensions would at least match (MLB) baseball and the disability system should be unique to our industry and administered legitimately.

However, the grave errors and GREED committed by the league are profound and certainly aren't being addressed.

Now, Congress is talking about removing their anti-trust exemption!

If the NFL just paid their bills then their problems would be few. And I have no doubt they'd certainly still make a lot of money!

Sincerely,
Dave & Heidi Pear

The Goodell/NFL Alumni/Fourth & Goal hoax lands in Yankee Stadium tonight, November 14th. The balloon will land and "Gene" Martin will come out of the attic to repeat his lines. The balloon - the S.S. Goodell Hoax - will "only" hold 180 retired NFL players, and only with proper ID's. No caregivers, no wives, no lawyers and no doctors will be allowed on board (more Dr. No!). Goodell is looking for retired players who will join his company union to separate, divide and conquer the retired players' general opposition to his and the owners' anti-trust exemption rule. Will Goodell be able to find 180 fools among us to attend his clambake? How many airline tickets and how many hotel rooms is Goodell paying for and - more important - who are the favored ones being comp'ed?

The "Let's take Goodell's money, move into the NFL Alumni offices, then throw Goodell out group" led by Jerry Kramer will probably all be there. On Goodell's tab.

Goodell's got his Covington & Burling orders to slow walk...delay...dismiss... deny...divert..talk about the 88 Plan, the cheap out-of-court settlement for brain injury disability. Now De Smith seems to have publicly joined the 88 PR scam in a desperate search for a talking point. No, De. The solution is actually very simple: Completely redesign the disability plan to suit professional football and raise the NFL Players pension plan to at least match that of baseball. De's strategy is say 'Yes' to everyone but do nothing while hiring new lawyers from his old law firms since he knows he's surrounded by outlaws who have no loyalty to him. De Smith's answer to retired players issues also seems to be the old tobacco tango: We don't cause cancer. Our studies, our paid-for doctors, and paid-for experts all say so...

Are there actually 180 retired player so foolish as to participate in Goodell's latest scam?
