Beverly,

In spite of everything that we have experienced as former NFLPA employees, you have selflessly contributed your knowledge and expertise in the best interest of the NFL players. Thank you for sharing this valuable information!

Since 1983...

You need to ask what happened during the last work stoppage (strike) and/or lock-out. Those disability benefits were absolutely stopped. They are not covered by the collective bargaining agreement. They are supplemental and not collectively bargained for.

Check it out: During the years 1989-1993 the NFLPA decertified and all benefits went away. The NFL will do this again if the NFLPA decertifies. The NFL tried to take benefits away from players such as those who are considered quadriplegic because they can still speak and think, therefore they can still work.

A prudent person would ask the question, "So why did it need to be signed in the first place?'

I thought Commissioner Goodell said in all of his previous comments about retired players benefits that this was not necessary. He implied that DeMaurice Smith didn't know what he was talking about. Is this what Roger means about "representing" retired players?

Please feel free to correct us if we're wrong.

Thank you,
Dave & Heidi Pear
