Latest on Parrish vs. NFLPA/Players Inc.
We’re just simply going to post an order from Judge Alsup that was sent out on Aug. 7, 2009 and the answer from Bernie Parrish filed after that. Bernie informs us that in no way is he trying to hold up or stop the settlement from getting into the hands of the retired players. His concerns have been with some of the terms in the settlement agreement and the way in which it was written and proposed. We’ve never quite understood why documents coming out of Manatt, Phelps & Phillips LLP kept omitting Bernie Parrish’s name from all court filings and orders when Bernie was clearly always the original lead plaintiff (even as Kessler & Co. continued to do so right through the proposed settlement documents). I hope that we can all support Bernie in the future actions that are being developed. He remains the “one-and-only” Retired Player Leader to ever win a significant award for any Retired Players. Stay tuned for the next ACTIONS.
I am very proud to be a Member of his team and I hope that all of you will support him as well. I remind everyone again that the recent trial was organized and paid for by Bernie out of his own pocket and you can see from the documents above he is the one who hired Ron Katz and the other Lawyers after a two-year search.
You men who are about to receive the Award, perhaps you might consider being fair and good enough to make a contribution to the “WAR CHEST” that we’re developing so we can get back in Court under Bernie’s leadership, to get full financial justice from both the NFLPA and the NFL for ALL Retired Players.
Gene and his old Crew laughed and guaranteed there was no way that the last trial would go anywhere. They were wrong – dead wrong. I believe that we will beat them every time that we go after them under Bernie’s leadership.
Most of you were never even offered a GLA agreement to sign from Gene and the NFLPA, even though you should have been. As the young boys say today, “Whatup with that?!!” Help us to call them to account for that. There are some men on the current GLA list who only played in one or two games, while others who labored in the League and paid dues to the PA for many years are not even listed once.
Let’s support Bernie because he’s not a rich man and it isn’t fair to ask him to spend his own money again to get justice and money that is long overdue.
The new groups including the Alumni who have used various “Hatchet Men” to try and discredit Mr. Parrish and convince you that they know what is best for Retired Players are bogus and I will just leave it at that, for now.
As I have always said, “I’m riding with Bernie” and I hope that you will too.
Leadership is earned.

Bernie,
Thank you for standing up for the rights of retired players and their families who were swindled by the perverse actions of the NFLPA Leadership over signed GLA agreements.
Gene Upshaw attempted OVER 100 times to get this lawsuit thrown out of court but he failed miserably!
Bernie has spent copious amounts of his own money to shed light on these convicted impostors who have breached their fiduciary duty towards retired players.
It’s a reasonable request that the court order dated August 7, 2009 by Judge Alsup be followed.
Sincerely,
Dave & Heidi Pear

I have been on Bernie’s team from the get-go!
Guys let’s get on the same page as present-day players as far as Pension goes. I think we all can live with this. Just remember, we can’t just fall in the ditch over when players took early retirement. Just ask: HOW OLD ARE MY PARENTS? YOU SHOULDN’T EVEN TALK ABOUT RETIREMENT UNTIL YOU ARE AT LEAST 55.
Let’s all stay together under one roof. One team, not several and that is BERNIE’S TEAM- NO ONE ELSE’S.

Hey Guys,
Don’t fall for that cotton candy! The league owners, Demaurice Smith and others are once again attempting to divide-and-conquer.
They have done a very good job these past 40 plus years!
I will never sign up with the new NFL Alumni assoc. I am a Bernie Parrish supporter l00%. They tried to paint Bernie as a racist. I’m a black guy and have known Bernie as a teammate and friend for over forty years. Bernie stands for justice. Period. I became one of the plaintiffs along with Bernie and Herb. We all believe that the NFLPA has taken full advantage of Retired Players. The primary reason the trial was even in California was because I live in Northern California. Had the trial been allowed to be moved to Virginia (NFLPA Headquarters) we would not have stood any chance at all.

The investment in this case — over $8,000,000 — was made by two law firms: Manatt, Phelps & Phillips and McKool Smith. There were no other financial contributors. A loss of the case would have meant the loss of the entire investment.

I don’t like to talk and talk and talk.
If anyone wants to know – An example: 1998 & later Benefit credit $470 Add factor, year that you retire. Let’s shoot for this: Let’s say a 10-year veteran retires at 60 (surviving widow to receive same) would be $7262.54 a month (Approx.). Not bad.
(Plus I did play 12 years also with Vikings and Dolphins – for your information!)

When we speak of money being put up by Bernie to fund the Trial we are speaking of all of the money that he spent over the years prior to Mr. Katz and the other attorneys ever being offer the job.
All of us who know Bernard know that he was spending “cash money” for a number of years before this trial ever hit the Courts.
Perhaps the Lawyers are getting $8 million but that does not mean that they actually INVESTED that much. Investment – Baloney. Don’t those guys ever stop spinning things?
I could be wrong but I don’t believe that the Lawyers actually came out of pocket and spent $8 million. Do you know how much money that is? No matter how much they paid a clerk to make copies, I just can’t see it being what Ron said.
Perhaps that is their “cut” of the award but I don’t think that they actually invested much more than $2.5 million, if that. I could be wrong and will gladly apologize to anyone who can show us “un-padded documentation” to the contrary.
We know that our men are going to go on and take the money and we all know that it was never Bernie’s intent to stop them from doing just that. Heck! He is the one that started fighting to get that money for them.
I think that we are all reasonably sure that Mr. Katz and company will never represent us in the future in our fight for ALL Retired Players to be compensated. He’s probably a good man but I personally don’t think that he did all that he could have done for us.
That said, Bernie “ain’t quitting” on us!

I played with Bernie in 1966 (Houston Oilers) and know him to be a dedicated, sincere and honest gentleman. I regret that I have not been active in the fight, even though I suffer with some of the same pains that many of you do. Please let me know how I can help. What is the status of the NFL Alumni in the eyes of those who are leading the fight for justice?
Thanks
