Bob Grant’s Advice for DeMaurice Smith

In Defense of DeMaurice Smith

The information that came in across the “wire” earlier today was crazy. I have no idea as to whether Dee is ever going to work with the Independent Retired Player Advocates or not but I will support him in his demand for respect from the NFLPA.

That Brother is one of the top attorneys in the nation and that is why they worked so hard to get him. So why would “they” now disrespect him by offering him “MINIMUM WAGE” for a job that Upshaw was paid top dollar. (Upshaw wasn’t even an attorney and he proved it many times.) If the job was a six- to seven million dollar a year job last year, why is the NFLPA crowd now representing it to be worth only a buck-fifty-an-hour.

We all thought that Mr. Smith was now the official Executive Director of the NFLPA but as it turns out, he was elected and he presently has no contract with them to make one single nickel yet!

Gene seemed to have arranged – with the help of certain folks – to have positioned and established himself as “Idi Amin/Da Da/President-for-Life” while he was alive. Now the NFLPA bunch is only offering Smith a lousy three-year contract.

As we used to say in the streets Dee, “Don’t let them ‘PLAY’ you.” You could make what they’re offering you on one single case with your law firm.

I would like to know how “They” plan on splitting up the difference between Gene’s old salary and income from all of those secret compensation deals that he set up for himself and his family if they do get Mr. Smith to accept that “MINIMUM WAGE” offer that they are now making.

This may be the last time that I side with Dee Smith on anything but I have no problem saying that the Brother should be paid!

Don’t let them “PLAY” you, Dee!

The NFLPA paid attorney Jeffrey Kessler almost $5,000,000 in 2008 and he was majorly defeated in the Players Inc. scandal and now he’s appealing!(?) Will he make another $5,000,000 in 2009?

Does Mr. Kessler or Mr. Berthelsen or Mr. Condon carry more authority with the NFLPA Leadership than their newly-elected Executive Director DeMaurice Smith?

What about the extensive and expensive search that was made for Mr. Smith?

Why would a person leave their current place of employment for another job and not even know the new terms and conditions?

Was Mr. Smith only told a half-truth about this new position? A half truth is still a lie.

Is this the reason why Gene Upshaw did not want a replacement?

This doesn’t make sense but I’m not surprised. This is business-as-usual and a way of life for the NFLPA Leadership.

Mr. Smith, please keep your guard up as you negotiate with these rascals.

Who’s in charge over there at the NFLPA?

Is this practice in harmony with the AFL-CIO?

So many questions and no answers…

This is just one of the many reasons why a GAO (Government Accountability Office) audit would expose some of their business dealings!

    Sincerely,

Why don’t you guys come to the NFLPA retired players convention and see what is going on? I hear your summit is not happening.
