UPDATE: Dave’s Recovering from His Surgery

Apr 30, 2008

Dave Pear - Washington Post The Pain Game

A quick update for now with more to come later: Heidi sent me a text message: Dave is out of surgery. All is well.

Heidi also followed up with a call around 5:45 yesterday evening to fill me in on a few more details. Dave went into the hospital around 10:30 in the morning with an expected operation time of 12:3. Unfortunately, the hospital had been making a changeover in their software system so everything was backed up a couple of hours so he didn’t go into surgery until 3:00. I was surprised to hear that hip replacement surgery takes just a couple of hours these days. I still remember not that long ago when this was major surgery that took the better part of a shift to complete.

I’ll post more later today when I’ve had a chance to call Dave in his hospital room.
