My Application is on Its Way to John Hogan First

Apr 25, 2008

Dabe Pear - Seattle Times Harley Soltes

Well, after a couple of weeks of sifting through files and shuffling paperwork, I assembled a stack of documentation that was almost 5 inches high. All of this should be more than enough to satisfy our friends at the NFLPA for my re-application for disability benefits. Just to make sure that everything was properly documented, I sent the entire package over to Disability Attorney – and good friend – John Hogan for review. I sent the package off by USPS Priority Mail late Wednesday so John should be receiving it either this Friday or Monday early next week. I can only hope that they don’t kick it back once again for providing them too much information (as they actually did once before in a prior application!).

As I prepare for my hip replacement surgery next Tuesday, we’re making plans to continue blogging with my notebook computer from my hospital bed for the next three weeks. We’re still hoping to be able to post pictures from my surgery and from bedside during my recovery.

Who knows? We might even be able to put up a video or two.

JOHN HOGAN RECEIVES DAVE’S FILE – PUTS AWAY GOLF CLUBS FOR THE WEEKEND.

I had also planned to start reading David Baldacci’s newest book – but will put aside his “The Whole Truth” for Dave’s “The Whole Truth.”

    Dave,

Sorry i didn’t get back to you. I have a video of my last knee transplant on the NewYorkTimes.com You might want to get that on your site. I not sure how you do it. Best of luck with the surgery. If you lived in Kansas City, I would have nursing assistance to come and help you at home and in the hospital.

Good luck and heal fast — we need you!

    Conrad,

Thank you for the support! I will continue to fight this battle until the end of time if necessary. I will petition Commissioner Goodell for justice no matter how many threats I continue to receive.

    Dave,

Good luck with your surgery! Great job staying the course and making sure that there is continual awareness of the “games” being run on the Retired Players. I just had Hip Surgery…a resurfacing. I played ten years in the pro’s – 3 with the Jets (74-76)- 7 with the Bills (77-83) and a couple of yrs in the minor leagues. Heart attack at 49, 17 concussions in the pro’s that I remember. Other than that, I consider myself pretty lucky when I read about all of the physical consequences and the Price Paid to satisfy and realize a kid’s passion to play a game which has no relevance to the workforce other than esoteric value of the Warrior and how that relates to attitude, but you can’t eat that; for certain, you’ll have to deal with the physical results for the rest of your life.

The quantum effect of the game now being realized by the senior group of the living NFL Warriors brought forth by the only guys they can see – “the Hall of Famers” – and now the “parallel universe of the Internet Warrior.” Keep it up Dave!
