Gene Upshaw says He & NFLPA Don’t Represent Retired Players
Feb 24, 2008
You know, after reading and re-reading Michael Leahy’s piece from the Washington Post, I started to focus in on another one of Gene Upshaw’s gems from the article:
A lot of the other retired players have talked to me about these comments and something just kept bothering us. Then the other day, I happened to pull my NFLPA membership card out of my wallet and did a double take. Check out the wording on the front and back of the card for yourself:
Well, I guess now we all know why they pay Gene the big bucks ($6 million and counting): Not only does he KNOW the law (!) but he can also READ (!).

Dave,
Thanks for posting the card. When Upshaw made the declaration that he did not represent retired players, I no longer paid my dues. Why should we put money into something we get nothing from? What’s more, everyone should start boycotting Player’s Inc.

John & Sam,
You are both right & I support you and all retired players… It is an atrocity what this Union has done to retired players and all non-name players. Again, I cannot say it more loudly that Congress should step in and put in a Trustee. Gene was no good for this Union and stole $6 Million Dollars a year and his membership allowed it. Troy Vincent would not be any better & he would continue as a thief. Further, the staff working for the NFLPA are currently overpaid and this must be adjusted. The retirees must stay on Congress to get involved with The NFLPA!
